Art direction and branding of CPVP.org

And here an exciting adventure begins…

The Center for Peace and Violence Prevention (CPVP) is Dedicated to a Culture of Peace and Respect for Human Dignity in Conflict and Post-Conflict Regions. My main role is to design and manage the visual identity of the organisation and of it’s projects, to imagine and create new events, to organise them and to lead the volunteers, in achieving a succeful outcome.

Design brief

Since CPVP is a charity organisation, its identity should not come out as flashy, but has to keep an academic, yet a serious look, in order to approach the right audience. However the design has to be lean and clean. Defining the visual identity of the organisation is mandatory, in order to prove its existence. The first step to do! so it’s by designing a logo and carefully deciding the brand colors (which are held in the logo). Once this main step is complete, that’s where the rest of the designs will emerge from.

Story and the concept of the CPVP logo

Few know the story behind the CPVP(.org) logo. And it is not just a simple logo, made to represent an organisation, but it has a meaning behind. Therefore, the concept and the color choice are not random.

The colored lined from the logo are inspired from the ropes which are folded around ship poles (those found in ports). The chosen colors of the logo lines, carry the image of the African Liberia. These are the origins, visions and the identity of the organisation, which was started, branded and developed in Romania. (Our respected founder and president Charles Wratto is originary from Liberia and also a formar surviving child soldier in the Liberian war.)

As described above, the colors in the logo are going to define the color identity of the CPVP projects. And the intended shades of gray, the light and the dark grays fit well to rest of the colors and work well on both black and white backgrounds.

For the name of the organisation, we chose Candara, because this font has an academoic look and it inspires seriosity. We are slowly transitioning to a second font which is Arial Nova.

Once the logo was set and the first step was completed, it was time to design the first design identity elements… including the call for volunteers for the Austria branch.

Other design materials include: flyers, social cards, social covers for different projetcs, such as sponsor a childer or various culturaland awareness events.

#UnitedForMali project

About the event

In 2019, CPVP builds its first refugee camp in Mali, for around 200 people who run from the rebels. The aim of this event is to supply tents for the families in the camp. The event is going to be held in Cluj-Napoca, Romania and in Vienna, Austria.

The design brief of the event

We will create a cultural event meant to raise awareness and to sensibilise the people about the situation. This event will host many activities for the general public, including for chilren and for amilies. These activities will give the chance to speak about the situation and also to promote the local culture of Mali. We will need to design print and digital materials, which promote the event and its activities, the culture of the local tribes, which will help us raise funds to buy tents.

Conclusion – United for Mali

The goal was achieved: we delivered a great social event to the general public, we raised funds and bought tents and other materials for our refugee camp in Mali. Sharing value, receiving value. #UnitedForMali

CPVP is making music!

During Covid, CPVP got involved into music production. We asked different people, from different countries, to take a picture of themselves, holding a card where is written in their own language: “God bless the doctores”. We got a lot of support and I compiled all these photos to created a Motion Graphics video of the song.

Dance Romania

About the event

Originally known as Dance Cluj and launched after the quarantine, when te restrictions were more relaxed, our proposal was to invite the intructors from various dance school to teach some free dance moves in the open air. During this period the dance schools were still closed, but gathering in open air was not restricted. Therefore, they were happy to come in the local park and do demo classes for everyone that was walking around and willing to join.

How we did it?

We created a facebook event, to raise some awareness. We broigh a Dj and a pair of speakers in the park. We invited the instructors to slowly animate the scene. And waited for the people who were walking by, to join the dance.

Design briefing

As a first test event known as Dance Cluj, we got a lot of positive feedback and interest from the people, including from the dance intructors who supported our idea and with their help we managed to organise it again, yearly. At this point, we decided that we need to brand this event and we also need to lock this idea down, therefore we choose to go national, by a new name: Dance Romania.

Altought Dance Romania does not follow the organisation’s default colors, it is the only project that has its own separate identity. We choose the spectrum of prink – blue, which gives a more dynamic look.

Conclusion – Dance Romania

Our socio-cultural event gave more visibility to the local and the national dance schools and has introduced the random walking people to a new experience. Many of these people decided to join these schools. From another standpoint, CPVP has managed to promote a wide variety of dances to the local public and has also managed to raise funds from donations for charity purposes.
